Headmaster's Statement

"I am a Black man married to a Black woman, with whom I share five Black offspring. Some of us have been direct targets over the years, and we have been actively fighting to end racism all our lives, and not just that initiated by the police. We believe in action, not rhetoric, and the Groton School we know is also about action.

Eight years ago, Groton School acted decisively by hiring and supporting a Black headmaster pair. My wife, Vuyelwa, and I—and Groton School—make Black lives matter daily by making sure our Black boys and girls, and all children, learn and succeed in an inclusive environment. The GRAIN (GRoton Affordability and INclusion) initiative and the GRACE (GRoton Accelerate Challenge Enrich) summer program are two specific examples of how we go about doing this. These programs are timely and timeless.

Education is a means to enlightenment and dignity, and this firm belief drives us as we lead Groton School."—Headmaster Temba Maqubela
