July At Groton School

July has arrived!  A veteran headmaster I knew long ago was fond of saying that the best three things about a career in education were June, July, and August.  Well, I don't exactly agree with that perspective (one he offered in jest), but it is nice to enjoy the summer weather here in New England.  The peace of summer allows us to reflect on where we have been and where we are going.  As a prospective student, you can begin to consider what features you are seeking in your next school.  Mostly though, this is a time for rest and relaxation. Regarding July and August, the "sage" advice from this admission dean is, "Take it easy."  Applying to schools involves a lot of energy from roughly mid-September through the end of January.  You can do some research now, and perhaps visit a campus or two this summer, but the real "feel" for a school's culture becomes much clearer during the term.  Still, we welcome summer visitors!  In July and August we offer student-led group tours followed by group meetings with admission counselors.

Throughout the year, you will have many more opportunities to learn about Groton and the admission process.  I write emails to prospective students once or twice per month.  I try to provide helpful tips regarding admissions and insights about life at this incredible school.  If you miss one of these emails, you can find them in the admission section of our website.  I recommend two that we have posted at this early stage: "A Groton Primer" and "Why Do Independent Schools Exist?"

Here's wishing you a happy, healthy summer of peace and relaxation.
