What's happening to the leaves at Groton?

We just learned that the ranking and review site, Niche, just listed Groton School as the #1 independent school in the United States!  Considering the competition, that's quite an honor!

I try to write to our applicants once or twice each month to provide updates about life at Groton or tips on the application process.  My head has been spinning this month so I have not been much of a correspondent, but here goes...

What's with the leaves?  At Groton, we attract applicants and students from around the world. Some of them are unfamiliar with the glorious transformation of our maple and oak trees each autumn. The verdant green leaves of summer become vibrant red, yellow and orange.  It's happening now! Come and see us soon to see the Groton Circle at its most colorful. This week we added more interview slots to the schedule in October, November, and December. If you were having trouble scheduling a visit, you might return to the online schedule to see more openings now.  We have added more remote interview slots as well.

Groton admission counselors always hit the road at this time of year. In September, we have visited places such as Atlanta, Chicago, China, Korea, New Jersey, New Orleans, and New York. I witnessed the worldwide impact of NBA basketball when we were in Shanghai about ten days ago. Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors was staying in our hotel so hundreds of young fans from Shanghai and beyond waited outside-- and inside-- the hotel for a glimpse of this great shooter. I was interviewing an applicant in an executive lounge when a young man in a Warriors jersey popped his head in the door. He closed it quickly when he realized I was not Steph. In the weeks ahead we look forward to making trips to Austin, Texas, Connecticut, Hanover, New Hampshire, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle in addition to many schools and venues in Massachusetts.

On campus, classes are in full swing.  As you may know, we begin each Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday by gathering together in St. John's Chapel to hear chapel talks, the majority of which are delivered by students.  We have heard some fantastic talks this year! I must say that it is a pleasure for this admissions dean to hear such interesting presentations from people we admitted!

Lastly, I want to bring your attention to a webinar we will be hosting on Sunday, October 6 at 7 p.m. ET. We think all families can benefit from hearing insights about such topics as the application process, financial aid, and the essential nature of a boarding school education. So please register for "Finding Your Way", a program that will offer something of value to anyone applying to independent schools.
