Lessons & Carols

The winter term always begins a little earlier for the faculty at Groton School.  Two days before the students return we begin a day-long faculty meeting.  The next day, we meet again.  What are we up to?  Advisors are reporting on how each of their advisees are doing.  A report is given for every student at Groton School.  It takes a long time, but the exercise helps us familiarize the faculty with every student.  About a week later written reports are sent home to parents from every teacher, advisor, coach, arts director and dormitory head.  After the spring term we engage in the very same activity.  Truly, Groton School is a community where people know each other well.

The choir and orchestra have been busy preparing for an annual event that is much loved by the Groton community.  Once this week and twice next week, we will hold our service of "Nine Lessons & Carols."  This service, which is popularly associated with King's College at Cambridge University, is Groton at its most traditional.  Nine short Bible readings are interspersed with carols and hymns.  Townspeople, faculty, staff, alumni, and students enjoy this culminating service before school closes for the winter holiday.  If you would like to view a livestream of the performance on Thursday, December 19, you may do so here.  Would you like to see a service right away?  You can access the recording of last year's service here.

We have just opened the remaining interview slots for the 2024-25 interview season.  While applications are due by January 15, we will be interviewing through the end of January.  There are very few slots available for remote interviews.  In January, we will be selecting applicants for those last few interviewing slots based on the application materials they have provided. If you have not scheduled an interview yet, we strongly recommend that you provide us with a video introduction so that we can get to know you better.

Here's wishing you the best of success with the weeks of school before the winter vacations begin!
