Congratulations to Rachel McMenemy '20 for scoring 1,000 points in her high school basketball career! The Groton girls varsity basketball team co-captain earned her 1,000th point during a 53–44 win against Pingree School on Saturday, January 18.
Going into the game, Rachel needed thirteen points to reach 1,000. It went down to the wire: the momentous point came on a free throw in the final minute of the game.
“Rachel's got the all-around game,” said Coach Joe Crail. “She’s a great defender. She’s always matched against the other team’s top scorer. Offensively, her strength is going to the hoop, but she has a good outside game as well. Rachel’s the coach’s dream player—she can do it all."
Rachel started at Groton School as a Fifth Former (junior). Of her 1,000 points, 564 were earned at Algonquin Regional High School in Northborough, Massachusetts. The last female basketball player at Groton to score 1,000 points was Alyna Baharozian ’18, in 2018.
