Impressive Wins for New Mock Trial Team
Groton's Mock Trial team won its competition against the reigning regional champion on January 28, continuing its successful inaugural season.
The team—the school's first—topped Groton-Dunstable Regional High School, bringing Groton's record to 2–0, one win from advancing to the state tournament.
"Groton-Dunstable has won this region for the last three years in a row. They were the top dog in the region," said Mock Trial coach and physics teacher Drew Evans, who led a successful Mock Trial team in college. "I am very proud of our team and for all their hard work.” One particularly outstanding performance came from the team captain, Erin Dollard '20, who earned a perfect 30/30 score.
Groton's key win came in a tiebreaker, decided by the judge based on Groton’s superior overall presentation. The case involved a wrongfully suspended student who argued that their freedom of speech was violated.
If Groton prevails in its next trial, Wednesday, February 5, the team will advance to the state tournament in Boston in March.
