A Strong Showing for Groton Runners at Half-Marathon

Twenty-one Groton runners participated in the Hyannis (MA) half-marathon on Sunday, February 23— finishing strong in the 15–17 age group and prevailing in an endurance test that has become an annual tradition for students who participate in Groton’s winter running program.

In the girls' age 15-17 bracket, Groton placed nine runners in the top fifteen. Running strong were Cara Chang ’20, Zoe Colloredo-Mansfeld ’21, Olivia Dillon ’21, Wren Fortunoff ’22, Kaylie Keegan ’21, Zoe Park ’21, Cornelia Potter ’21, Hannah Wise ’21, and Helene Worthington ’21.

Among the Groton boys, PK "Rocket Man" Kenyon ’20 finished thirteenth overall in a race of 1,639, running a sub-six-minute pace (a Groton School record), while Stanislas Robert ’22 and Luke Benedict ’21 finished in the top ten for boys 15–17.

A sign reading “13.1 Miles Because You’re Only Half Crazy” showed the lighthearted attitude among Groton’s serious competitors. Running through Groton trails all winter paid off with fitness and the satisfaction of completing a half-marathon. Congratulations to all the runners and their coaches, Jen Wallace and Ted Goodrich!
