Groton kicked off a late game against a strong BB&N squad under the lights on Friday night. Backed by numerous supporters on their Homecoming, BB&N pressed right from the first whistle, looking to stretch Groton’s defensive line. A penalty call was a first major inflection point, allowing BB&N to take the lead in the eighth minute. The next 20 minutes proved a cagey affair, with Groton’s defense and midfield matching up with BB&N’s attack and few genuine chances for either side. A turnover on a free kick allowed a quick counterattack from BB&N that resulted in a second goal. The second half followed a similar script, but Groton began to assert itself more in BB&N’s half, leading to several chances. BB&N’s back line held firm, however, and they added a third in the 50th minute to help see the game out. Next up for the Zebras: Roxbury Latin on 10/25.
