Groton’s final home game of the 2023 season offered a tough match up with St. Sebastian’s, a strong and technical side. The Zebras were a little sluggish out of the gate, failing to deal convincingly with some of the danger that St. Seb’s pace posed and the intensity of their pressing. A frustrating 7-minute period saw Groton concede twice (sloppily). That said, Groton gave a good account of themselves, especially in the second half, where their defensive shape frustrated St. Seb’s on multiple occasions, giving the Zebras a stronger foundation to push with more assertiveness and confidence into the final third. Despite the 2-0 score line at the whistle, there were several positive takeaways from how Groton rebounded in organization and energy after giving away the lead. Next up: the cross-town derby at Lawrence Academy on 11/8.
