Groton Overcomes Early Deficit to Defeat Pingree 4-2

The Groton School boys' varsity hockey team showcased their resilience once again, battling back from an early deficit to secure a 4-2 victory over Pingree School on Wednesday. With a strong second-period performance and key contributions from their offensive leaders, Groton improved to a 9-6-0 record on the season.

The game began with Pingree taking an early lead in the first period. Max Guertin, assisted by Marco Mottola, put Pingree on the board at 9:24, giving them a 1-0 edge heading into the second.
Groton came alive in the second period, capitalizing on opportunities and taking control of the game. Alejandro Hassan tied it up with a power-play goal just 1:16 into the period, assisted by Nolan Wilson and Rafael Aberbach. Zach Baker then delivered back-to-back goals, the first coming at 3:35 with help from Nate Moons and Owen Cronan, and the second at 15:15, assisted by Moons and Hassan. Groton’s explosive second period ended with a 3-1 lead.

Pingree pushed back in the third, narrowing the gap to 3-2 when Max Kirianov scored at 10:42, assisted by Kellan Danaher. However, Groton’s defense held firm, and Owen Cronan sealed the game with an empty-net goal at 17:31, assisted by Kaiden Donia.

Groton’s offense was driven by standout performances from Zach Baker, who netted two goals, and Alejandro Hassan, who contributed a goal and an assist. The Zebras had stellar goaltending with Fifth former Wes DiModica making 21 saves. 

This victory marked another strong showing for Groton as they continue to build momentum heading into the latter part of the season. The Zebras will take on Middlesex School tomorrow afternoon at 2:30pm in Concord, MA.
