Freelove’s OT Heroics Lift Groton Over Roxbury Latin, 4-3

In a thrilling overtime battle, the Groton School Zebras edged out Roxbury Latin 4-3, thanks to a clutch game-winning goal from Harrison Freelove just 52 seconds into the extra frame.

Groton wasted no time getting on the board, with Freelove scoring just nine seconds into the game off a feed from Nate Moons and Zach Baker. However, Roxbury Latin responded later in the first, capitalizing when Luke Campanella evened the score.

The second period saw tons of action, with both teams trading goals. Elliot Wood put Groton back in front early, only for Campanella to strike again for RL moments later. The Zebras regained the lead when Moons buried a 4-on-4 goal off assists from Baker and Wood, but RL answered again, this time shorthanded, as Thomas Pender tied things up before the period ended.

Despite multiple chances in the third, neither team could find the back of the net, setting up a dramatic overtime. That’s when Freelove delivered, finishing a pass that deflected from Kaiden Donia to secure the win for Groton.

Goaltender Wes DiModica was solid between the pipes, turning away 22 of 25 shots to help lift the Zebras to a 12-6-0 record. RL’s Sam DiFiore made 27 saves in the loss, as Roxbury Latin fell to 8-8-1 on the season.
With the win, Groton looks to keep the momentum rolling as they face Lawrence Academy tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
