Groton Dominates in Big Win Over Proctor

The boys' varsity hockey team came out flying on Saturday, skating to a 6-3 victory over Proctor in what was easily their most complete performance of the season.
Groton wasted no time getting on the board, with Jason Mah burying the game’s opening goal just 52 seconds after puck drop, assisted by Cam Cirrone. The energy in the rink was electric, and it only got louder when Angus Frew sniped at 3:33, thanks to a slick feed from Zach Baker. Kaiden Donia added another insurance goal at 7:30, with help from Connor Wig, giving Groton a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period was quieter for Groton as Proctor clawed back with two goals during 4-on-4 play. But Groton regrouped during the break, and the third period was all ours. Just 53 seconds in, Harrison Freelove lit the lamp, assisted by Baker and Mah, to shift the momentum back in our favor. Even after Proctor scored to make it 4-3, Zach Baker restored the two-goal cushion with a goal at 10:24. Rafael Aberbach put the final nail in the coffin at 14:22, finishing off a beautiful passing sequence from Mah and Nate Moons.
Between the pipes, Alex Wang was a brick wall, stopping 30 of 33 shots and keeping Groton in control even when the game got tight.

This win bumps Groton’s record to 3-4-0, the same as Proctor’s, but if Saturday’s performance is any indication, this team is just getting started. With contributions from all over the lineup and a ton of energy on the ice, Groton looks ready to roll into the next game.
