Moon’s Hat Trick Powers Groton Past Proctor

Groton skated past Proctor Academy with a strong offensive performance, securing a 7-3 victory behind a stellar night from Nate Moon, who notched a hat trick.

Moons got Groton rolling early, scoring the opening goal just over three minutes into the game off assists from Zach Baker and Harrison Freelove. Freelove and Cam Cirone each added first-period tallies, giving Groton a 3-2 lead after one. In the second, Rafael Aberbach extended the lead with a goal just over a minute in, but Proctor kept it close heading into the third.

That’s when Moons took over. He struck twice in a 13-second span midway through the final frame, completing his hat trick with a pair of goals assisted by Baker and Freelove. Baker then sealed the win with an empty-netter in the closing minutes.

Goaltender Wes DiModica was sharp between the pipes, turning aside 36 of 39 shots to backstop Groton to victory. With the win, Groton improved to 13-9-0 on the season. They look to go on a win streak on Wednesday when they face BB&N on the road in Cambridge.
