Groton Skates Past Brooks, Again!
For the second time this season, Groton took down Brooks, securing a 4-2 victory in a hard-fought battle. The Zebras came out strong and never looked back, with key contributions from multiple players.
Groton struck first late in the opening period on a 5-on-3 power play when Bruce Li buried a setup from Elliot Wood and Cam Cirone at 14:46.
Early in the second, Owen Cronan extended the lead, finishing off a feed from Li and Alejandro Hassan just over four minutes in. Less than four minutes later, Nolan Wilson, on a break away, capitalized on another opportunity, finishing off a play set up by Kaiden Donia and Connor Wig to make it 3-0. After Brooks got on the board midway through the frame, Groton responded in the final minute of the period as Zach Baker, with a tip out front, found the back of the net off a pass from Nate Moons, giving the Zebras a commanding 4-1 lead heading into the third.
Despite Brooks adding one more early in the final period, Groton’s defense and goaltender Wes DiModica held strong. DiModica was outstanding between the pipes, turning away 44 of 46 shots to backstop the victory.
With the win, Groton improves to 16-9-0 league record, continuing their strong season as they look ahead to face St. G's on the road this Saturday afternoon at 4:30pm.
