Groton falls to Andover
The Groton boys' varsity hockey team came up short in a hard-fought matchup against Andover, falling 3-1.
Groton's lone goal came late in the first period when Cam Cirone buried a shot off a feed from Ettore Monson, tying the game at 1-1 after Andover had opened the scoring. Cirone's tally highlighted a strong first-period effort by the team. Andover regained the lead in the second period and later sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final seconds of the third.
In goal, Wes DiModica delivered a solid performance for Groton, making 20 saves on 22 shots and keeping his team within striking distance.
Despite a determined effort, Groton was unable to convert on their opportunities. The team will look to rebound in their next matchup against St. Andrew's College (Toronto, Ont.) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. during the 50th Anniversary Groton-Lawrence Ice Hockey Tournament.
