A Thriller!

Groton entered the heart of the season with an exciting come-back win over evenly-matched opponents from Brookline High School. Jamie Abramson and Yanbo Pei played with sufficient balance and control to pull out early 3-0 wins but then Brookline took the next three matches. With the Groton team down 2 - 3, we needed to win both matches that were still on court. The picture looked bleak at one point, when Carter Lightburn was down 1 - 2 and Samuel Lu trailed 0 - 2 in their best-of-five matches against opponents who looked extremely sharp. Fortunately, neither the Groton players on court nor the teammates cheering them on had any interest in giving up. When the dust finally settled, both Lightburn and Lu had come back to win thrilling five-game matches. This was exactly the type of match we train for and look forward to, with strong competition on every court, great team spirit, and good sportsmanship throughout.
