Solid Performance All Around!
Following some very productive practices this week, the Groton players went into our first league match of the season with focus and determination. Their thorough preparation allowed them to compete with great determination and also great poise.
On paper, today's match looked like it would be dead even. As the first round of play got going, it was clear that the prediction was accurate; points and games were close and competitive on every court. The wins did not come easily but eventually, Jamie Abramson, Yanbo Pei, and William Laws all put points on the board for Groton, which took the second-round players into their matches with confidence. Even so, those later matches continued to be close contests. After plenty of good squash, Arthur Murray secured the team victory and then Samuel Lu and Carter Lightburn added to the team score. This was all that a squash match should be, with good points, close competition, and excellent sportsmanship on both sides.
