Home Opener Goes Groton’s Way

Groton hosted Deerfield for the first home match of the season, with the cold, wet weather forcing the match indoors. The girls played in front of a spirited and supportive crowd, setting the stage for an exciting day of tennis.

The match kicked off with doubles, where Groton’s players wasted no time showcasing their net skills. Lindy and Caiyu quickly found their dominant form, cruising to an 8-1 victory, followed by Ella and Sofia, who delivered an impressive 8-0 win. Liv and Leah rounded out the doubles sweep, wearing down their strong opponents to secure an 8-6 win.

Singles play continued Groton’s strong momentum. Facing an undermanned Deerfield team, Groton’s players were relentless, combining powerful ground strokes with crafty drop shots to take control of their matches and secure dominant victories.

The match wrapped up with  Ella, the senior captain, finishing off her determined opponent to give the team an 8-1 win. The girls celebrated together, watching their captain’s victory with pride just in time for the student activities committee to transform the courts into a blacklight mini golf course for some Saturday night fun.

Groton’s defense of their ISL title begins this week with a trip to Byfield to take on Governor’s Academy.
