An Unconventional Check-in

On a cold Thursday night, my fellow dorm members started filing into Hamlin’s common room for check-in. Whether it was a Fourth Former coming from their dorm room or a Fifth Former from the Schoolhouse, we were all shocked to see two missing parties upon our arrival: the Sixth Formers and our affiliate.
As confusion and questions quickly filled the room, someone had the idea to check the dorm group chat. From it, she read aloud a text from our prefect Chloe: “Come outside.”

We saw our affiliate and prefects huddled around a small fire pit when we stepped outside of Hamlin's. It was a s’more’s feed! Ms. Rowland—or Coach J as we call her—had brought a fire pit, bags of marshmallows, boxes of graham crackers, and bars of Hershey’s chocolate. There was plenty of food to go around. We all joined them around the fire toasting our marshmallows, enjoying the heat, and even more so, each other’s company.

Although unexpected, we were pleasantly surprised with the feed; it was a unique one and perfect for a cold night. And even though s’mores set the bar high for the rest of her feeds, Coach J has met it every time afterward—think mini tacos and McDonald’s.
