Day 6: Visiting "Baby Dragons" in Postojna's Magic Caves

Jess Shapiro
Somber, we bid Venice farewell and watched the city turn to tall trees and mountains.
One bus nap later, we arrived in Slovenia and, before heading of to Ljubljana, we stopped in Postojna to visit their famous cave. After grabbing lunch, we boarded a train that Mr. T claimed was a rollercoaster. The ride was thrilling but featured no steep drops as expected. However, there was some dubious water dripping from the ceiling and this proved to be equally exciting. Nonetheless, the cave was gorgeous and we got the opportunity to walk around on a tour. We also learned about olms (or baby dragons) which are reptiles that look a lot like axolotls and inhabit the cave.

Fun Fact: olms can live up to 100 years and can go without food for 10 years. They are called “baby dragons” because original explorers of the cave thought that they were the children of a large dragon that lived in the cave.

At the end of the tour, there was an echo chamber where people actually play music! The sound lasts for 6 seconds. Ms. Bai showed off her impressive vocals and her secret identity as a former singer was revealed.
After our brief detour, we were finally off to Ljubljana.
