Day 8: The "Infamously Gorgeous" Lake Bled

...but we made do! First, we explored in groups. As we admired the beauty of Lake Bled located in the Julien Alps, many of us found our way to the stands of local artisans. Some hiked up to Bled’s medieval castle and enjoyed Bled’s famous cream cake. Others sled down the mountain in a roller coaster-type car called the summer toboggan. 

 

We later gathered together as a whole group to boat out to an island where we explored yet another historic building. The water was simply too blue and pristine not to swim in so, as we returned from the island, we all jumped in the water and splashed around.

 

The scenery in Bled—the lake, the mountains, the castle—was truly breathtaking and our wonderful experience there certainly provides incentive to return to Slovenia.
