Girls Soccer Defeats Williston Northampton in NEPSAC Quarterfinals
Playing in front of a large, galvanized fan section, Groton varsity girls soccer delivered a 4-0 victory over Williston Northampton in the quarterfinals of the NEPSAC championships.
Groton controlled the pace from the start with strong midfield play and relentless offensive pressure. Although having many scoring chances in the first half, the Zebras went into half time tied 0-0.
Groton’s offensive domination continued into the second half. The offense finally broke through when Caitlyn DiSarcina '17 split the Williston defense and chipped the ball past the goaltender.
This goal opened the floodgates as the Zebras went on to score three more, with two from Syd Brackett '16 and one from Dorrie Varley-Barrett '15. As the final whistle sounded the fan section stormed the field to congratulate the team who advances to the NEPSAC semi finals with the victory.—Joe Gentile '14
