Jamie Dunphy, guitar and Guitar Ensemble, has been an active Boston-area performer and teacher for the last fifteen years. He holds a masters degree in guitar performance from the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, and has studied with Charlie Banacos and Olav Chris Henriksen. Mr. Dunphy performed nationally with the acclaimed original jazz group, Mill City Trio. In 2010, the band presented a series of workshops and concerts in New York, New Jersey and New England featuring "The Syncopated Bird," an original large-scale composition for jazz trio and narrator. Most recently, Mr. Dunphy has been exploring various aspects of historical performance and guitar history. In 2012, he and Olav Chris Henriksen presented a series of concerts entitled "Flights of Melody," featuring early 20th-century American guitar duets. Currently, Mr. Dunphy keeps a busy performance schedule, playing Renaissance lute in a duo with soprano Jill Noddin, and continuing to explore jazz and other improvised music with fellow Mill City Trio founder Greg Passler. Mr. Dunphy is also an experienced educator who is passionate about high-quality guitar and jazz education for children. In addition to teaching guitar and directing one of the guitar ensembles at The Groton School, he chairs the guitar and jazz departments at The Indian Hill Music School in Littleton, and teaches private lessons at The Belmont Hill School.
