Visual and performance artist Mirland Terlonge, the child of first-generation immigrants from Haiti and Jamaica, investigates social politics and its consequences through her art.
Much of her work is influenced by her childhood experiences working alongside her mother, an event florist. Terlonge exposes harsh realities hidden within props from weddings, parties, and funerals and relates the residue of elaborate social events to distorted public perceptions, recontextualizing everyday items into a critique of her social experience.
