Summertime

As we approach the final days of July, I find myself humming one of the best tunes of the Great American Songbook, "Summertime." George Gershiwn thought of "Porgy and Bess" as an American opera, and "Summertime" is the most memorable piece in the show. The second and third verses begin with the lines, "One of these mornings, you're going to wake up singin', And you'll spread your wings and take to the sky."

Is the time for you to take to the sky approaching? Many people wonder what they should do to prepare for the whole process of applying to schools. Some will say, "Just be yourself." That's true, but what does that mean? When you apply for anything in life, what people are seeking is your authentic self. Well, it could be argued that all of us would like to know our authentic self  at every stage of our lives! We make progress towards this goal when we take time to reflect on our values, achievements, and aspirations. Dedicate some time to this sort of thinking in the summertime when "the livin' is easy" and you will find it easier to "rise up singin'" in the months ahead. That's my advice for the end of July.  And now for some practical tips...

As of today, people who have completed the biographical form called the Candidate Profile may schedule autumn visits to Groton online. Visit your application portal and you can access our visits calendar. We know it can be complicated to arrange visits to a number of schools, and we hope that you find the process of scheduling a visit to Groton to be simple.

Those people who live in a land far, far away may want to interview remotely via Zoom. This is easy to do in the summer. Just complete the Candidate Profile and register for a time through your portal. Many people want to interview remotely during the school year so we have to ask those people to go through a review process. It's much easier to interview remotely in the summer.
