Groton wins Kingswood-Oxford Tennis Tournament for fourth straight year

After a productive pre-season on campus, five members of the boys varsity tennis team headed to the Kingswood Oxford Tennis Tournament in West Hartford, CT, this past weekend.

There, the squad competed against seven other strong tennis teams: Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Hall, Hotchkiss, Choate, Westminster, and Kingswood-Oxford. By the end of play on Sunday afternoon, Groton had won the Nos. 2, 3, and 4 singles draws as well as the No. 2 doubles. In addition, they took third place in the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles flights. All together, Groton accrued a total of 30 points, a mark that was more than the double of the closest competitors: Hotchkiss and Westminster (14), Hall and Deerfield (13), Choate (12), and Lawrenceville (11).

"The boys worked very hard in pre-season to be ready for this early contest,” said Coach John Conner. “Groton has now won this tournament the last four times it has been held. The squad was sharp, fit, and proud to wear their Groton uniforms."

The first dual matches of the spring are this coming week against Exeter and Deerfield.
