At Fay

An away game with some injuries and illness diminishing our large numbers, in a rink where one coach started her figure skating career many years ago and another has trained and worked as a ref. We experienced three very different periods this afternoon. A strong Fay team quickly took the lead and scored all five of their goals; what doesn’t show on the scoreboard is that goalie Lena Aloisie had twice as many saves, and some were spectacular. Groton won the second period 1-0 as the girls became more comfortable handling their speedy and skilled opponents; Lauren Ash took advantage of a rebound sitting just off to the goalie’s left. The third period was cut short because the ice time came to an end, but not before Sunny Ma was able to net the second Groton goal. In spite of the loss, all quickly noted the closer score in comparison to our previous games. We continue to work hard on skating and stick skills in practice, and improvement is noticeable.
