Groton drops season opening to Deerfield
Groton began its 2025 campaign with a 1-6 loss to Deerfield. The boys (Trip Wight, Sam Lu, Miles Zhang, Thaddaeus Flatz-Ehrfeld, Charlie Stubbs, Max Fan and Teddy Kelleher) had returned a day early to fit this match in during the last day of spring break. With a Sunday afternoon practice followed by a late supper and overnight at Señor Conner's house, game day started with breakfast, another practice and then a roadtrip to Deerfield.
The talented and deep Deerfield team swept doubles and then won straight set victories at 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Only Captain Trip Wight prevailed at #1, winning a great match by first splitting sets and then clinching it in the 10-point tie-breaker.
The squad heads to Exeter on Wednesday and then to the Kingswood-Oxford tournament this weekend.
