Cirone's Hat Trick Ices Hebron
Groton's boys' varsity hockey team claimed a commanding 6-1 victory over Hebron Academy, with a strong offensive performance and stellar goaltending. The scoring started early in the first period when Rafael Aberbach capitalized on a crisp setup from Angus Miller and Cam Cirone at the 2:00 mark to give Groton a 1-0 lead.
Zach Baker added to the lead in the second period, scoring off assists from Brooks Lytle and Bruce Li. Toward the end of the period, Harrison Freelove extended Groton's advantage to 3-0, with help from Nate Moons and Baker.
Hebron got on the board at the start of the third period with a power-play goal, narrowing the score to 3-1. However, Groton quickly regained momentum as the third period showcased their offensive depth, led by Cam Cirone, who netted a natural hat trick. His first goal came at 8:59, with assists from Angus Miller and Brooks Lytle. Cirone struck again at 12:42, combining with Miller and Aberbach, before capping off his performance with a final tally at 16:06, assisted by Elliot Wood and Miller.
Forth former Alex Wang was a rock in net, securing the win with consistent saves and steady play throughout the game. Groton’s league record improves to 7-5-0 as the team continues to build momentum this season. They face St. George’s at home on Saturday afternoon on the O'Brien Rink.
