Groton Falls to St. Mark’s in Regular Season Finale, Eyes Playoff Matchup Against Berkshire

In a hard-fought battle against rival St. Mark’s, Groton wrapped up its regular season with a 3-1 loss on Saturday. Despite a strong effort, the hosts couldn’t overcome an early deficit, but they’ll quickly turn their focus to the postseason as they prepare for a quarterfinal matchup against Berkshire on Wednesday in the Small School Tournament.

St. Mark’s jumped out to a first-period lead when Cam MacPherson capitalized on the power play at 8:57. Groton goaltender Wes DiModica stood tall throughout the game, turning aside 33 of 36 shots, but St. Mark’s found the back of the net twice more in the second period, including another power-play tally from Evan Nee.

Groton showed resilience in the third, breaking through when Nate Moons buried a feed from Harrison Freelove and Kaiden Donia at 6:37. The hosts generated quality chances down the stretch but couldn’t crack St. Mark’s netminder Justin BriseBois, who finished with 27 saves.

With a 16-12-0 record, Groton now shifts its focus to the playoffs, where they’ll travel to face Berkshire in the Small School quarterfinals. The team will look to rebound quickly and extend its season with a strong performance on Wednesday.
