Cold Start To The Year
The Groton girls returned to action to kick off their 2025 campaign with a highly anticipated match against perennial powerhouse Andover. The day was cold and windy, and it took a little time for the girls to find their rhythm. Andover capitalized on the conditions, showcasing their strength in doubles and securing all three points.
The singles matches brought a mix of results, some one-sided contests and two intense three-set battles. As the teams gathered at the end, all eyes were on the respective third-form stars for each squad, where Groton’s birthday girl, Sofia, faced off in a grueling match. After dropping the first set 0-6, Sofia made remarkable adjustments, battling back to win the second set 7-6. Unfortunately, she came up just short in the third, but impressed her coach and teammates with her resilience. The future is undeniably bright for her and the team.
The girls are eager to bounce back this weekend as they host Deerfield at home on Saturday.
