Day 7: Spending time with students from Aasraa Trust

Groton students spent the day with the NGO Aasraa Trust.
At the beginning of the day, we drove to the Aasraa Trust's Girls' Shelter. We were first greeted with a game of kho-kho, which is a mix of team tag and duck-duck-goose. We did our best to keep up with the young girls who board at the shelter. We then played some volleyball with them. The girls and staff then presented us with two dance presentations, and proceeded to entice us to join them in an unscripted dance. Max brought down the house with a spirited rendition of Gangnam Style. Today was Inga's birthday, so to celebrate, the shelter bought a cake and sang her happy birthday. We then met a leader at the shelter named Shiala, who we talked with.

We then drove to the Aasraa Trust's Boys' Shelter, and we were given a tour. We then played a game of Seven Stones, which is a cross between Jenga and dodgeball. As we said our goodbyes and then drove off to FabIndia, which is a social-entrepreneurial clothing company. As the girls continued shopping, the boys took a trip to that iconic American eatery, MacDonald's, where we discovered that the French Fries taste exactly the same as in the good ole US of A, but the rest of the menu trends towards Indian tastes. In the end, everyone drove off to their respective schools, ready to conquer the following day.
