Cast Bonding Out and About in Pre-Festival Edinburgh

Faculty Chaperones
Today we landed at 8 AM in SUNNY Edinburgh (that's not something people often say!) where we were greeted by our WorldStrides Blue Badge Guide. We had an easy transport into the city center and many of us had a "oh wow" moment when we realized that the "New Town" section of the city is older than the US and features gorgeous Georgian architecture.
We passed the Princes Street Gardens and learned a little bit about how and why Edinburgh expanded this way in the 18th Century.

We arrived at our home for the next two weeks- Pollack Halls residences at the University of Edinburgh, but we were unable to access our rooms until check-in at 3pm so we decided to wander, explore, find food and get the lay of the land. Highlights of our 5 hour self-guided walking tour included visiting various venues and Festival hubs, getting a great Sunday brunch and boba tea, perusing bookstores and Fringe Programmes and grabbing a nap in the shade on the lawn of the Meadows. Everyone was delighted and impressed with the abundance of Festival shows that were featured on enormous posters everywhere you looked. We even found our show listed in some published guides and made a plan for how, where and when we will post our own posters and show swag.

Caiyu, Evelyn and Holly joined our group as soon as they arrived and we finished the day with some orientation activities, a meal at Pollack Halls and a chance to do a little acting. Jet lag was unavoidable but everyone pushed to stay awake. We played improv games and students made short skits that showed their version of how a GEO as complicated as this one goes from idea to reality at Groton School The sense of humor in this group is a 10 out of 10 -- which bodes well for the next few weeks!

We should mention that our dorm is right at the base of Arthur's Seat and we are making our plans for a sunrise hike while the weather is still clear. It's so beautiful and this is a very energetic group!

We miss you all! Keep watching this site as we intend to update you all daily. Tomorrow we get to visit Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile and Scottish Parliament. After that it's push-push-push to get our little show ready for its first International Audience!!!
