As the winter approached its end, it was time for everybody’s favorite week of the term: Spirit Week.
In this week leading up to St. Mark’s Day, the energy and enthusiasm at the school is always at its highest, and it is encouraged even more by friendly dorm competition. For each day’s spirit theme, the chosen winner would earn points for their dorm, and the dorm that accumulates the most points would win the prize that every boarding school student values: food. Coming off of a hot performance at the annual school Lip Sync Battle, the Martinez dormitory was prepared to win by any means necessary. Even our esteemed dorm head, Mr. Martinez himself, was all in on a Martinez sweep of Spirit Week. The Sunday night before Spirit Week, the Martinez boys got to planning.
The week started slow with a subpar performance on Twin Day, but we acquired our two points with a lucky crossover with an opposing dorm. On Tuesday, however, the boys of Martinez showed out for Anything But A Backpack Day. Our prefect sacrificed his bed, and with the work of many hands, we carried our things to school on a homemade bed frame backpack. Martinez’s dorm took the day. Our point streak continued when the hockey team, which included many members of our dorm, won Team Day on Wednesday with our incredible recreation of the Rocky Balboa sweatsuit. After coming away pointless on Spy Day on Thursday, the dorm was determined to go all out for Beach Day. With the help of beach chairs, Hawaiian shirts, sunscreen, and a portable grill, the race wasn’t even close. At the end of Spirit Week, the points were totaled, and a clear victor was decided. The Martinez boys were the most spirited on campus. The dorm is hungry for a SAC-sponsored feed, and even hungrier for another Spirit Week victory come Spring term.
