1000 Points

Warning: a lot of basketball talk incoming.

Let me set the scene for you. Picture Groton girls basketball playing at home against Middlesex.
It is late in the second quarter, you’re a Groton player, and we are on offense. Another Grotonian in the corner passes the ball to a teammate on the wing. That teammate throws a skip pass over Middlesex defenders in the paint to you on the opposite wing. You take a shot from behind the three point line … and it goes in. Then, as you run down the court to get back on defense, the game stops and your cheering teammates suddenly swarm you. “It wasn’t that good of a shot,” you think, confused by the excessiveness. But then you see it. Your teammate is holding a big poster that reads ‘Ava’s 1000th Point!.’

Although I had been told I would reach that milestone before the game, I had forgotten in the heat of the moment. Regardless, my team’s support and the referees’ green light to momentarily stop the game (not a regular occurrence) made remembering it wonderful. Now I have a great team memory and two funny posters to go along with the points. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
